Three Brentwood High students will compete at the national level following their performances at the Tennessee National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) Qualifying Debate on April 7.
Hosted on their own turf at Brentwood High School, Naba Wahid, Camilia Mohamed and Elizabeth Qiao all succeeded in their Congressional Debate categories.
As the state champions, Naba will represent Tennessee in the Senate, Camilia will be House 1 representative and Elizabeth will be House 2 representative.
“They all command a presence with their level of insight and intellect,” said Brentwood High English teacher Matt Grimes. “These are three strong female voices earning placement to the national tournament. We need more women involved in speech and debate, and these ladies act as powerful ambassadors.”
Naba, Camilia and Elizabeth will join fellow WCS students and students from across the country in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from June 17-22 at the 2018 National Speech and Debate Tournament.
