A class of 2017 Brentwood High School graduate capped off his high school experience by earning a national award.

Andrew Brown competed in the National Speech and Debate Association tournament in Birmingham, Alabama, from June 18-23.

Brown entered the United States Extemporaneous Speaking competition, and he finished 12th in the nation out of 300 other contestants. The topics addressed in this category included U.S. education, social issues, foreign policy and politics.

During his time at Brentwood High, he held a spot on the BHS Forensic Team, and he is planning on attending Washington University in St. Louis in the fall.

“Andrew decided as a sophomore that he would devote himself to excelling at extemporaneous speaking,” said Brentwood High Forensics head coach Harriet Medlin. “He worked hard and took advantage of opportunities, and his dedication paid off.”
