Across the Board – February 19, 2018

The Williamson County Board of Education approved open zoned schools for the 2018-19 school year. Those schools can be found at https://old.wcs.edu/departments/transportation/zoning/.
Members of the Mill Creek Middle School Strings opened the meeting. The students who performed were Jaelen Boldon, Jacob Keaton and Kaitlyn Choi. They are instructed by Mill Creek Middle teacher Craig Madole.
Five students were honored for earning a perfect ACT score including Brentwood’s Hutson Staggs; Franklin’s Sina Ghandi; Independence High’s Brent Lane and Sean Smith; and Ravenwood’s Brendan Goodbred.
Two students were recognized for receiving the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for Tennessee. At the middle school level, Woodland’s Sydnee Floyd received the honor, and at the high school level Franklin’s Zachary Wolfson was the recipient.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Dr. Mike Looney provided a safety and security update to the Board. He shared that he had emailed parents earlier to brief them on expectations. He announced that he will hold a community meeting regarding security on March 6.
In the Board Chairman’s Report, Gary Anderson recognized our high school Student Congress On Policies in Education, SCOPE, representatives. He also reminded Board members that the group will meet to discuss the 2018-19 budget on Saturday, February 24 at 7:30 a.m. in the PD room.
In New Business, the Board:
- Approved the following budget requests: General Purpose School Fund Intra-Category Transfer-Human Resource Department; Central Cafeteria Fund Amendment – Cafeteria Needs; Extended School Program Fund Amendment – United Way ESP Grant; Intent to Fund Resolution – Buses; Intent to Fund Resolution – Land; Intent to Fund Resolution – Central Elementary School; Intend to Fund Resolution – Safety and Security Specialist Addition; Intent to Fund Resolution – Central Middle School Sewer; Intent to Fund Resolution – Grassland Middle and Sunset Middle School Auditoriums; Intent to Fund Resolution – Independence High School Addition; Intent to Fund Resolution – Fairview Middle School Renovation; and Intent to Fund Resolution – Asphalt Projects.
- Adopted and Approved the Superintendent Goals.
- Approved the Family Tuition Rate for 2018-2019.
- Approved School Fees for 2018-2019.
- Approved two policies on first reading: Hiring and Anti-Harassment.
In other business, the Board:
- Approved recommended field trip fee requests.
- Approved the Fairview High School Replacement of Softball and Baseball Scoreboards.
- Approved the Nolensville High School Softball Storage Shed.
- Approved the Page High School Cafeteria Lease with DailyChurch, Inc.
- Approved the Ravenwood High School Install Storage Shed at Practice Football Field.
The next regular meeting of the Williamson County Board of Education is scheduled for Monday, March 19, 2018, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Administrative Complex.
