Academic All-Star – Isaac Leavy, Heritage Middle

Published May 17, 2018

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Sonic Drive-In and other gifts from the district.

Teachers at Heritage Middle School describe Isaac Leavy as a role model who inspires others through his dedication to his academic and extracurricular pursuits.

That’s why they chose him as this year’s Academic All-Star.

“Isaac strives to exceed expectations in his classes every day,” said HMS Teacher Ashley Blankenship. “He is conscientious, kind and considerate to his teachers and peers. Isaac is always ready to help, and he is the first to volunteer when anyone needs assistance.”

Isaac admits he’s the type of student who genuinely enjoys school. Perhaps that’s why he can be found participating in numerous school-related activities.

“I am a member of student council,” said Isaac. “I am also in the choir; I serve as the stage manager for the musicals; and I volunteer for Heritage Helpers where we go to the elementary school to help the students there.”

Looking ahead to high school, Isaac says he’s ready to start a new chapter at Independence next year.

“I am very excited,” said Isaac. “I am doing the engineering and architecture track at IHS so I’m pretty excited about that.”

That being said, Isaac is quick to point out how much he will miss the teachers and staff at Heritage Middle.

“They’re so kind and friendly, and they try so hard to make school a fun experience,” said Isaac. “I have really enjoyed the atmosphere here.”

In the future, Isaac says he’d like to work as an aerospace engineer for NASA. Until then, he says he’ll continue doing all of the things that got him where he is today.

“What motivates me is just knowing the hard work will pay off in the end,” said Isaac. “Plus, I just really like school.”
