The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Sonic Drive-In and other gifts from the district.
You’d be hard-pressed to find an 11-year-old as devoted to her school as Oak View Elementary fifth grader Ella Carlisle.
In all her years at Oak View, Ella has never missed a day of school. In addition, she has overcome numerous obstacles in her pursuit of academic excellence, making her the ideal choice for this year’s Academic All-Star.
“Ella is a hard-working young lady who has persevered through academic challenges to become an honor roll student,” said Oak View Teacher Heather Vinson. “She has a heart of gold, and she is always willing to go beyond what is asked of her. Ella is a student who doesn’t let challenges stop her. The word ‘can’t’ is not in her vocabulary.”
When asked about her amazing attendance record, Ella gives much of the credit to her teachers.
“The teachers here are really helpful and nice,” said Ella. “They helped me through kindergarten and first grade before we knew that I needed glasses.”
Although she’s excited to make the jump to middle school, Ella says she will miss the sense of community at Oak View which she describes as friendly and fun.
Outside of school, Ella is an avid volleyball player who’s been playing the sport since she was five. She’s also interested in math and science and says she wouldn’t mind working for NASA one day.
No matter the career, Ella’s teachers say her incredible work ethic and outgoing personality will take her far in life.
“Ella’s drive and ambition to be a top performing student is duly noted, but it is also displayed in her personality and the way she treats others,” said Vinson. “She is truly loved and respected by her teachers and peers. We’re proud to name her our Academic All-Star.”
