Academic All-Star – Connor Britt, Pearre Creek Elementary

Published April 27, 2018

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Sonic Drive-In and other gifts from the district.

Self-motivated, confident and kind. They are adjectives that are often used to describe 11-year-old Connor Britt. The fifth grader was recently chosen as Pearre Creek Elementary’s Academic All-Star for the 2017-18 school year.

“Connor is an all-around incredible child,” said PCES Principal Dr. Stephanie Goff. “He has outstanding academic performance, exceptional character and a positive, helpful attitude. Connor is definitely a star at Pearre Creek.”

Having attended Pearre Creek since kindergarten, Connor says there are many things he will miss about the school when he makes the leap to middle school next year.

“I’m going to miss all the teachers,” said Connor. “They make everyone feel special. I’m also going to miss Nurse Heather. She has really helped me with my diabetes.”

Although he has to work to manage his Type 1 Diabetes, Connor says he doesn’t let it affect his school experience.

“It doesn’t really change anything,” said Connor. “I’m pretty smart so people don’t think of me as the kid with diabetes. They just think of me as the smart kid.”

Connor’s favorite subject is math because he likes the satisfaction that comes with getting the right answer. When he’s not in school, Connor enjoys playing video games and spending time with his family.

Although he’s excited to start middle school next year, Connor knows he’ll have to keep working hard at the next level. In the meantime, he says he’s going to enjoy the thrill that comes with being named an Academic All-Star.

“I feel really special right now,” said Connor. “I know the teachers really like me, and I’m just happy that I have this opportunity.”
