The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Sonic Drive-In and other gifts from the district.
Known for his leadership, generosity and keen fashion sense, 11-year-old Cairo Weaver is this year’s Academic All-Star for Longview Elementary School.
“Cairo has such a loving spirit, and he is a true team member,” said Longview Principal Kathy Ball. “He is loyal, kind, considerate, and he often puts the needs of others before his own. Cairo has been an asset to Longview, and I’m sure he will only continue to spread his gift of compassion around the world.”
Cairo has attended Longview since third grade and says it will be hard to say goodbye when he leaves for middle school at the end of the year.
“I’ll miss the teachers, the principals and the staff,” said Cairo. “They’re really nice.”
Cairo’s favorite subject is social studies which makes sense considering his future goals.
“I want to be a politician when I grow up,” said Cairo. “I’ve always been interested in politics, and I’d like to be President one day.”
With that sort of ambition, Cairo knows his education will need to be a priority.
“School is important because there are certain things you learn that you need to know as you grow up,” said Cairo. “They are things that could help us later on in life.”
In addition to always dressing for success, educators at Longview say Cairo is known throughout the school for his service to others.
“It’s not uncommon to spot Cairo in the halls of Longview Elementary wearing a sport coat or bow tie,” said Ball. “He often encourages his classmates to do their best, and he is considered a good friend to many. We are proud to name Cairo our Academic All-Star.”
