Woodland Middle School musicians earned a clean sweep of the competition at the recent Music in the Parks Festival in Pigeon Forge.

The band, orchestra and choir all competed with the band earning a score of 95.3, making it the highest-scoring instrumental ensemble. The WMS orchestra finished just behind the band with a score of 93.8, and both groups were awarded first in their class and first overall in their categories.

“I’m so proud of these students for being willing to play music that not every middle school band can play and performing it in such a superior way,” said WMS Band Teacher Jay McCulley. “The judges commented on how amazing it was that a group of middle school students could perform this caliber of music.”

The choir wasn’t left out after it also achieved first place in its class and first place choir overall after earning a score of 95.

The orchestra is under the direction of Cassandra Brosvik; and the choir is led by Margie Wineman-Chaney.
