Welcome Back Message from Dr. Looney

Published July 29, 2016

We’re only a few days away from the start of an exciting new school year, and I know I’m looking forward to what’s in store.

As the district makes final preparations for the upcoming school year, one of the most important actions all of us must take is to participate in this year’s local elections. A majority of the Williamson County School Board seats are on the ballot. Please become informed about each candidate and exercise your right and fulfill your responsibility to vote. Early voting ends Saturday, July 30 at noon. Election day is Thursday, August 4. Stop by the Infothon on July 30 and show us your “I Voted Early” sticker and we’ll take your picture and add it to our photo album.

Our district’s administrators and teachers continue to be relentless in providing rigorous and relevant instruction for students while building relationships with the families they serve. The new school year provides us with more opportunities to excel in every area of the educational experience, from academics to the arts to athletics, in a way that ensures our students continue to set the pace for the state of Tennessee and the nation. Working together, I expect the Class of 2017 to meet our Strategic Plan goal of an average ACT composite score of 24.

This year brings with it several changes and innovations that I’m excited to share, beginning with the grand opening of three new schools in the Nolensville area: Mill Creek Elementary, Mill Creek Middle and Nolensville High. Our district continues to grow at an amazing rate which is a direct testament to its leading academic reputation in both the local and national communities.

We will also be introducing new technologies to better connect our parents, teachers and students to our schools, including a transportation website that will allow parents to see the location of their child’s bus along with an estimated bus stop arrival time. Teachers and students can expect a single sign-on computer dashboard providing a one-stop shop for resources like e-textbooks and apps used in the classroom. These will be accessible from most devices.

BE NICE 3.0 is in full force, and we have a new opportunity to spread this message of kindness and compassion throughout the community this year. Thanks to the efforts of Kenrose Elementary parents and the Kenrose PTO, Williamson County Schools has an official specialty BE NICE license plate that’s available for public purchase with the proceeds going directly to your school. Reserve your license plate today at www.kenrosepto.com.

This year, I’m looking forward to strengthening relationships and moving the district to the next level. Thank you for all you will do to ensure this school year is a successful one.
