WCS Students Win Mobility Week PSA Contest

Three Williamson County students are the winners of this year’s Golden Cone Awards.

The prizes were handed out September 15 at the Transportation Summit in Franklin. As part of Mobility Week, WCS TV and Film students were invited to create Public Service Announcements that will encourage WCS students to analyze the general public’s understanding of traffic issues and inform the community.

Franklin High School student Josh Collins was one of the winners. He says his own daily commute to and from school prompted him to participate in the contest.

“It’s something that affects me every day with all of the traffic and construction in front of Franklin High School,” said Collins. “It feels good to know that I can put something I enjoy doing to good use and portray a good message about carpooling and riding the bus.”

Ravenwood High School students Claudia Cruz and Susanna Dunn won an award for their PSA as well which focuses on carpooling.

“We thought it would be nice to offer a solution to our peers who always get frustrated by traffic,” said Cruz.

“We thought carpooling would be helpful because it targets our peers and a lot of the times we go to the same after school activities,” added Dunn. “We wanted to share the message that carpooling reduces pollution and makes things a lot easier.”

Presented by Nissan and hosted by Williamson, Inc., Mobility Week is a county-wide initiative focused on exploring practical ways that individuals, commuters, corporations, schools and small businesses in Williamson County can work together as a community to reduce traffic on our roadways.
