WCS students were on target as they competed in the Williamson County JROTC Rifle League’s final air rifle match of the season February 28.
Centennial High, Independence High, Page High, Ravenwood High and Fairview High all competed in the contest.
The Page High team consisting of Harper Biggs, Taylor Vail, Trenton Maddox and Jimmy Maloney was crowned the league champion for the third consecutive year.
Air rifle competitions at the high school level typically include three positions: prone, standing and kneeling.
Independence’s Taylor Walker finished as the top prone shooter of the season with a cumulative score of 928 of 1,000 possible points achieved over the course of five different matches. Teammate Tyler Overstreet finished runner-up with a cumulative score of 912.
Biggs was crowned the standing position champ while teammate Vail finished second. Overstreet was third.
Walker also won kneeling position with 848 points ahead of second-place finisher Biggs with 810 and third-place finisher Vail, who rounded out the top three with a score of 809.
The Top Gun category is given to the shooter with the highest overall score when combining all three positions in all five matches.
Biggs distinguished herself as the shooter to beat with a combined score of 2,505 points out of a possible 3,000. Walker tied with Vail for second place with 2,477, with the trophy going to Walker because he scored a greater number of 10-point bullseyes.
