It’s award show season, and Williamson County high schools are getting in on the action.

The Nashville High School Musical Theatre Awards recognized three Williamson County high schools and two students on Saturday, May 13, for their exemplary skills onstage.

Modeled after the Tony Awards, the Nashville High School Musical Theatre Awards recognize achievements in acting, directing, lighting and many other aspects of theater. More than 1,000 students from 30 schools across nine counties entered. Nominees from the top 20 schools performed at a ceremony at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville.

Williamson County high schools received the following awards:

  • Best Show: “Little Shop of Horrors” – Ravenwood High
  • Best Overall Tech: Brentwood High
  • Best Lighting: Page High
  • Best Music Direction: Ravenwood High
  • Best Direction: Ravenwood High
  • Best Vocals: Ravenwood High

Two individual students also received top awards. BHS student Will Ryan was recognized for Best Dramatic Actor, and RHS student Nathan Ketter received the Best Actor award. Nathan will be traveling to New York City to be considered for the Broadway League’s Jimmy Awards, and he will spend nine days learning from Broadway performers, directors, choreographers and musicians.

“We knew once he auditioned that he was a very special student,” said RHS theater teacher Brian Kaufman. “His natural ability to bring out a character’s emotion without forcing it is truly remarkable. Then when he starts singing, it’s just captivating. When they called his name for Best Actor, I felt like we had won the Super Bowl!”
