Williamson County Schools is demonstrating its commitment to keeping students safe behind the wheel with the creation of a new task force.
In response to the recent group of teen accidents involving Williamson County students, the WCS Student Safe-Driving Task Force assembled for the first time January 26 to discuss proposals and ways to keep students safe.
“We’re trying to bring awareness to distracted driving and the things that have happened throughout Williamson County,” Summit High Principal Sarah Lamb said. “We want to be proactive and make sure students are safe.”
Williamson County Schools Special Projects Manager Dr. Angela Huff is spearheading the task force.
“We’ve tried to have representation from all parts of Williamson County, the state of Tennessee and also our internal folks,” Huff said. “We felt like we needed to have the right people at the table to help us make decisions on what our next steps should be to keep our students safe.”
Task force members heard presentations from representatives of the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, AAA, the Tennessee Department of Health and the Nissan ThinkFast Project.
Nissan’s ThinkFast Interactive Project recently visited Franklin High School to educate students about the dangers of distracted driving.
