WCS Bus Driver Raise Approved

Published October 18, 2016

WCS bus drivers are getting a bump in pay. At its October 17 meeting, the Williamson County School Board approved a change to the starting pay for a WCS bus driver from $14.72 an hour to $17.25 an hour, with experienced drivers making up to $24.05 an hour.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney says he hopes this measure will help with the district’s recruitment efforts.

“We have been working really hard to recruit enough bus drivers to run our routes on time, and we haven’t been successful,” said Looney. “We’ve tried a lot of out-of-box ideas, but at the end of the day, it appears that pay is the only way to attract the number of bus drivers that we need.”

Other perks that come with being a WCS bus driver include:

  • Summers off
  • Split shift, which gives a lot of freedom in the middle of the day
  • No required weekends
  • Paid training
  • Great benefits including employer-paid health insurance coverage
  • Extra income for retirees
Holidays off to spend with family and friends
  • Making a difference in the lives of students
