WCS and FSSD to Present All-District Honor Orchestra Performance
Published October 14, 2016
Williamson County Schools and Franklin Special School District will present the All-District Honor Orchestra performance on Wednesday, October 19 at 7 p.m. at Centennial High School.
Students have been selected by audition for the ensemble, which will feature some of the finest orchestra musicians in the county’s middle and high schools. Students will rehearse a repertoire of high quality and difficult music Tuesday evening and all day on Wednesday for their performance on Wednesday evening.
The honor orchestra began four years ago with only four orchestra programs and was an addition to the long established honor band performances. Last year, with the explosive growth in orchestra programs throughout the county, the honor orchestra created a separate event in order to accommodate the growing number of students. This year’s performance will feature 11 WCS schools.
Creston Herron will be conducting the Middle School Honors Orchestra. Herron is the Director of Orchestras at Klein High School in Klein, Texas.
Kelly Corcoran will be conducting the High School Honor Orchestra. Corcoran made her professional conducting debut in 2004 with the National Symphony Orchestra, where she studied with Leonard Slatkin.
Concerts begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19 in the Centennial Performing Arts Center. Donations of $5 are appreciated. All proceeds will support the Williamson County orchestra programs. For more information, contact Cassandra.brosvik@wcs.edu or Allison.Cowan@wcs.edu.
