Three High School TV and Film Production Programs Earn National Recognition

Published September 14, 2016

The TV and Film production programs at Brentwood, Franklin and Ravenwood high schools are earning national acclaim. Students from all three schools were recently nominated for The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) National Student Production Awards.

NATAS regularly hands out regional awards for submissions, but this year the three WCS high schools have advanced to the inaugural national competition. There were more than 1,500 entries in this year’s contest. Winners will be announced October 4 in Washington D.C.

Franklin High had the most recognition with nominations in the categories of Light News, Director and Writing.

“We are honored to be finalists in three categories of the NATAS national awards,” said FHS TV and Film Teacher Keri Thompson. “The nominations are a result of a year’s worth of passion, dedication and talent. Those nominated have exceptional talent and are now pursuing college education in similar fields.”

Ravenwood was nominated for two awards in the Photographer and Animation/Graphics/Special Effects categories.

“I’m excited and anxious to see what the results are for the awards,” said Mitch Mullins, who was on the RHS crew until graduating last year. “I am very appreciative for those who helped push me to work hard.”

Brentwood’s WBHS 9 was nominated for the best newscast.

“This is by far the best and most in-depth newscast we have produced in my eight years at Brentwood,” said BHS TV and Film Teacher Ronnie Adcock. “We focused not on just what was going on here at Brentwood High, but around the world.”

Live streaming of the event will be available October 4 beginning at 12:30 p.m. on http://livestream.com/tndv-television/studentproductionawards.
