State Board of Education Visits Ravenwood High

Published April 21, 2017

Members of the Tennessee Board of Education paid a visit to Ravenwood High School April 20.

The visitors toured classrooms, met with Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney and administrators and spoke to both teachers and students. Board members say the group schedules regular school visits as a way of reminding the Board that the work they do should always be grounded in what is best for students.

“The visit to Ravenwood was inspiring,” said District 7 Board Member Wendy Tucker. “I was struck by the incredibly high level of engagement in every classroom we visited. The students were all actively participating and clearly enjoying the lessons. The teachers all had a clear passion for their work and an obvious love for their students. It was a great way to begin our day and a timely reminder of what is possible with great leadership, excellent educators and rich curriculum.”

The State Board of Education is composed of 11 members who are tasked with developing and maintaining policies that ensure a primary focus on student success.
