Spring Station Middle School physical education teacher Darnell Spann makes it a priority to encourage active and healthy lifestyles for his students.
In recognition of his commitment to educating students about physical fitness, Spann was chosen as the 2016 Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. The award was presented November 8 at the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD) convention in Murfreesboro.
TAHPERD is an organization dedicated to “promote healthy, physically-active lifestyles for all Tennesseans.” Spann says he never would have received the award without the help of his fellow teachers and administrators at Spring Station.
“It is crucial to have a supporting cast of team teachers and principals who support what I do each day,” said Spann. “They make me better. This award has allowed me the privilege of sharing my knowledge with other educators, while continuing to grow myself. I am truly humbled that TAHPERD educators recognize my hard work.”
