Simplify the New Year With the Track the Bus App

Published January 19, 2017

The spring semester has begun and Williamson County Schools is happy to welcome families new to the WCS community.

As parents and students settle into the new year, many families may find it helpful to use our Track the Bus application.

Track the Bus is a web-based app that allows students and their parents/guardians to view the location of their bus during transportation hours. The goal is to increase student safety and improve communication on changes to bus schedules. The program uses GPS data from the school bus to provide this information.

Individual bus stops for the 2016-17 school year are also posted on the WCS website. Parents are encouraged to find their child’s route information as soon as possible.

“Bus routes change regularly due to rapid growth throughout the district,” said WCS Planning and Zoning Manager Allison Nunley. “Track the Bus is a great tool that gives parents a visual on their child’s bus location and an estimated time of arrival at the assigned bus stop. Please remember that we have a walk standard of up to .25 miles for students of all ages living inside subdivisions. Parents who live on a main or rural road and need a bus stop should email or call us at 615-472-4952.”

Please be at the stop at least five minutes prior to the published time.

The Williamson County Schools Transportation Department provides bus transportation to all eligible WCS students who travel to and from their attendance-zoned school each day.

Safety, both on and off the bus, is the transportation department’s top priority. All buses are inspected before the school year begins and throughout the school year, and drivers are trained throughout the year. All buses are equipped with digital cameras to ensure students are transported in a safe environment.

In addition, parents will receive a pamphlet with WCS School Transportation Safety and Discipline Guidelines. Because the bus is an extension of the school day, the school code of conduct also applies to behavior on the bus. Eligibility to ride the bus may be revoked if students violate school bus conduct policy. This pamphlet explains the rules, regulations and policies of Williamson County Schools regarding student conduct while traveling on school system buses.
