Rumor Mill – February 17, 2017

Published February 17, 2017

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.

If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.

With so many school districts in Middle Tennessee closing, what are the chances WCS will do the same to prevent the spread of illness?

In Williamson County Schools, our absentee rates are substantially lower than what has been reported by some of our neighboring districts. Dr. Looney does not intend to close school due to illness.

Our school custodial staffs will continue to focus on disinfecting the buildings, and our school nurses will continue to work to keep all of our students healthy and in school. Our nurses suggest that if you think your child might have a fever, please check his/her temperature before sending him/her to school. Your child should not be sent to school until he/she has been fever free for at least 24 hours without taking a fever reducing medication.

Our school nurses have prepared the following guidelines to follow if your child is not feeling his/her best. Please use the following to determine whether or not your child should be in school: https://old.wcs.edu/wp-content/pdf/HealthServices/IllnessPolicy.pdf.

I was wondering if you could please update me on the school start times for next year. I completed the survey but have not heard of the results or decisions regarding this issue.

The survey results did not indicate a strong preference from families. The Board has not taken any action to press for a change.

Is there any plan to add strings to the band program at Page Middle School?

There are no plans to add a strings program to Page Middle at this time. The school is focusing on band and chorus as its music offerings, however given Page Middle’s projected growth and building modifications, the school may choose to consider adding strings in the future.
