Published August 5, 2016
The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.
If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.
There were rumors around for a while now that Burkitt Place will be rezoned so all kids will be attending Nolensville schools. Any truth to that?
At this time, no rezoning plans have been made, so the rumors of particular neighborhoods being rezoned is speculation. With the fast growth in the county, rezoning is always on the horizon. As it does each year, the District will begin reviewing school capacities after the 2016-17 school year is underway. It should be noted that Burkitt Place is divided by the Williamson/Davidson County line, so not all homes in that neighborhood are zoned for Williamson County Schools.
Why can’t a new high school be built in Grassland, as living maybe two miles from FHS it seems somewhat ridiculous to have to send my kids to a high school at least 10-12 maybe more miles down the road to Independence?
Although the current Five Year Capital Outlay Plan calls for a middle and high school complex to be built in the northwestern part of the county, no land has been identified and there is no projected completion date at this time. The Five Year Capital Outlay Plan is updated on an annual basis and it’s scheduled to be updated in November. Click here to view the Five Year Capital Outlay Plan. The Board of Education is also discussing master plans for both the Franklin High School campus and the Brentwood High/Brentwood Middle campus. If additional instructional space is added to either of these schools as part of that master planning, it will affect the timing of adding schools in the northwest part of the county.
There have been meetings to discuss updating and/or building new campuses for Brentwood Middle School and Brentwood High School. What is the status? These campuses have been too long neglected!
According to the district’s Five Year Capital Outlay Plan, a Brentwood High/Brentwood Middle Master Plan is currently being developed. Architects presented information on possible master plans at the Board’s June 2016 work session. The Board will continue this discussion at its August work session.
