Reading Grant to Benefit Fairview Summer Camp

The Fairview O.N.E. summer camp will receive a major boost thanks to the 2017 Read to be Ready Summer Grant program.
The camp, which will take place at Westwood Elementary, is set to receive a $41,073 grant from the program, which helps fund educational camps that target rising first, second and third graders who are not on grade level.
Fairview O.N.E. instructors say the money will help elementary students receive academic instruction during the summer and provide a stronger foundation in reading and writing. Nearly three quarters of Tennessee’s school districts applied for summer grant funding this year. Only 212 recipients were chosen.
“I was thrilled to hear the news that our Read to be Ready Summer grant application was awarded,” said WCS Special Projects Manager Angela Huff. “Now, students at Fairview Elementary and Westwood Elementary will have the opportunity to enjoy fun, educational activities incorporating reading and writing throughout the month of June. I am grateful to both Principals Valerie Garcia and Brent Oakley for allowing their two teachers Suzanne King and Eileen Brogran to have release time to help write the grant.”
Huff joined forces with Fairview One program co-directors Brogan, Fairview, and King, Westwood, to write and submit the grant application.
