Ravenwood and Brentwood Make Newsweek List of Top TN High Schools

Published August 11, 2016

Two Williamson County high schools are among the top public high schools in the nation according to Newsweek.

The magazine released its annual list of the best public high schools August 11 with only four high schools from Tennessee making the list. The top school from Tennessee is Ravenwood High at No. 87; Brentwood High came in at No. 162.

“It is an honor for our schools to be recognized nationally for achievement and college readiness through the Newsweek rankings,” said WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. “While our community may know how hard our students, teachers and staff work to achieve academic excellence, it is nice to be acknowledged at the state and national level for our accomplishments.”

To determine the rankings, Newsweek looked at six measurements and weighted them to come up with a “college readiness index.” The rankings are meant to show how well high schools do at preparing students for college. Those measurements include graduation rate, college enrollment rate and school performance data, among others.
