Mobility Week Begins with School Day September 12

Published September 8, 2016

Mobility Week is set to begin Monday, September 12 with School Day, and Williamson County Schools students, parents and staff are encouraged to participate.

Presented by Nissan and hosted by Williamson, Inc., Mobility Week is a county-wide initiative focused on exploring practical ways that individuals, commuters, corporations, schools and small businesses in Williamson County can work together as a community to reduce traffic on our roadways.

During the Transportation Summit on Thursday, September 15, Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney will participate in a panel discussion with other county leaders.

“Williamson County Schools is pleased to play a small role in Mobility Week. I support the work of Williamson Inc. and appreciate the efforts to improve and enhance the transportation experience for Williamson County residents,” said Looney. “I look forward to participating in our panel discussion and learning about solutions for reducing traffic.”

Two student representatives from each high school will also attend the summit.

If your family wants to participate in Mobility Week, here are a few ways to get involved:

  • Students can walk, bike or ride the bus to and from school.
  • Parents may want to organize a “school pool” program to carpool with other parents in the neighborhood.
  • High school students can enter the Mobility Week PSA video contest.

“We have asked WCS TV and Film students to get involved by creating Public Service Announcements that will encourage WCS students to analyze the general public’s understanding of traffic issues and inform the community,” said WCS Career Counselor Rebecca Collins. “The winning PSA will be presented at the Williamson County Transportation Summit.”
