Grassland Middle Girls Soccer Wraps Up Perfect Season

The Grassland Middle School girls soccer team dominated its opponents this year with one final goal in mind – to win the Williamson Middle Athletic Association Championship.
That’s just what the Lady Generals did, defeating Woodland Middle 2-0 in the WMAA final on December 1 to cap off a perfect season.
The GMS girls didn’t lose a game, making it look easy and finishing the season with a perfect 12-0 record while outscoring their opponents 54-4 in that span and averaging 4.5 goals per game.
“It felt great to see these eighth graders lead this team to a championship,” coach Clarke Oldham said. “They set that goal at the beginning of the season and really worked hard to accomplish it.”
Oldham says the Lady Generals’ ability to play together is what separated them from the rest of the pack this season.
“We have an extremely talented team, but so do a lot of other teams in the county,” he said. “The difference for us this year was having that talent come together so quickly to create a team. The girls really liked each other and enjoyed playing for Grassland Middle, and I think that was a major reason why we were successful this year.”
GMS students Jessie Desantis, Amanda Williams, Emma Shields, Lia Elisar and Ayers Leggett were named to the all-tournament team.
