Fairview Middle Boys Cross Country Captures State Title

Published October 12, 2016

The Fairview Middle School’s boys cross country team can finally catch its breath.

After running hard all season, the Falcons capped off their stellar 2016 cross country season with a state championship Saturday, October 8 at Hilldale Family Life Center in Clarksville.

Both the boys and the girls teams qualified for the meet by their placements in the TMSAA sectional meet held on September 24 in Smyrna. The girls were sectional runner ups and the boys were sectional champions.

At the state meet, all of the Fairview Middle runners recorded personal bests for the season earning the girls a fifth place finish and the boys the title of state champions.

“We had the potential and I believe our coaches pulled it out of us,” said FMS runner William Perry. “I was definitely pleased with both my performance and the team’s performance.”

A state title is a big jump for Fairview Middle, who won the championship this season after missing the tournament a year ago.

“These kids have worked hard since the beginning of the summer,” coach Preston Brooks said. “Last year we didn’t qualify for the state meet so it was definitely a goal for us to get here. We were confident coming in that we had a shot but with the quality of runners at this level, the boys really needed to bring their A-game. That’s exactly what they did.”
