Brentwood High Takes First and Second in Debate Tournament

You don’t want to get in a dispute with the Brentwood High School Debate Team.
On September 17, the BHS Debate Team competed in the Collierville High School Invitational Tournament and the Bruin teams walked away with the top two spots.
The team of Huzyfa Fazili and Sailesh Sitaram won first place, while fellow teammates Saahit Adabala and Jackson McNabb captured second.
The Invitational champs attribute their win to hard work and a tough team mentality.
“Preparation, dedication and trusted partnership are critical success factors in debate,” Sitaram said. “Huzyfa is an amazing partner and we build on each other’s strengths to be successful.”
Adabala and McNabb said they relied on pre-competition preparation to lead them to a win.
“Half the battle is fought at the competition, and the other half is in the preparation,” Adabala said. “My partner Jackson and I spent many hours preparing for the resolution and coming up with strong points. We make sure our research is extensive to face tough competition. Our coaches guide us in this process to make sure we do our very best.”
For anyone wishing to see the debaters in action, their next competition will be at Portland High School Saturday, September 24.
