The Brentwood Middle School girls cross country team has dominated all season with big meet wins, but they accomplished their final goal last weekend when they finished first at the 2016 Tennessee State Middle School Cross Country Championships.
The BMS team was undefeated all season winning the A .F. Bridges Invitational middle school girls meet, the Williamson County middle school girls meet, the Nashville Youth Athletics Greater City XC Invitational and the Nashville Area Regional Championships to qualify for State.
“We all have a lot of heart,” said eighth grader Eden Mittelsdorf. “Our team has a strong bond and we appreciate each other. We encourage each other greatly.”
The girls started the season strong and only got better as they kept their eyes on the ultimate prize.
“We’ve come really far since our first meet,” BMS top finisher and fifth place in the state, seventh-grader Sophia Rutherford said. “We’ve improved so much. Coach Cummings individualized our workouts but we still come together as a team. We know each other’s strengths.”
