BHS Teacher Named TSTA Educator of the Year

If students at Brentwood High School seem to be enjoying and excelling in their science classes, it may be thanks in part to Doug Murray.
Murray teaches physical science and biology at BHS, and on December 2, he was named the Tennessee Science Teacher’s Association Educator of the Year for Grades 9-12.
This award recognizes leadership roles in promoting science and outstanding contributions to science education that positively impact the community.
“His teaching philosophy is focused on creating classroom experiences where students enjoy, learn and really connect with science,” the TSTA said in a statement.
Murray attributes his individual recognition to the relationships he has built with students, faculty and staff at Brentwood High.
“The relationships fostered from the successes and failures when working with students, parents, faculty and administration are what I look forward to each day as a teacher,” he said. “Education has become a ‘team sport’ in that all stakeholders succeed and fail together. The relationships we build as a team of educators, a team of learners and a team of stakeholders must positively impact student learning. Building those relationships each day is my favorite part about being a teacher.”
