BHS Sophomore Named Gatorade Player of the Year

Brentwood High’s Logan Eggleston is only a sophomore, but she may also be the best high school volleyball player in the nation.
Eggleston was named the Gatorade Tennessee Volleyball Player of the Year on Tuesday after a fantastic 2016 campaign where she led the Lady Bruins to a 50-4 record and their fourth consecutive Class AAA state title. She finished the season with 406 kills, 184 digs, 54 blocks and 44 aces. She was also named MVP of Brentwood’s championship win over Farragut.
“The Gatorade Player of the Year award has become the most prestigious award in high school sports — honoring athletes not only for their athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court,” BHS coach Barbara Campbell said. “Logan Eggleston is a very talented young player and super gifted athletically. She is explosive, powerful, lengthy, quick and strong. It is impressive that at such a young age the award distinguishes her as Tennessee’s best volleyball player.”
Eggleston is the first BHS player to receive the honor since Hunter Thompson in 2014.
“I am honored to be named Gatorade Player of the Year for Tennessee in volleyball,” Eggleston said. “I found out early Tuesday morning when Coach Campbell texted me and when I got home there was a package from Gatorade with a duffle bag that has Gatorade Player of the Year on it. Several of my friends were named Player of the Year in their states too so being able to share it with them is really cool.”
Not only does Eggleston dominate on the court, she’s just as aggressive in the classroom where she has maintained a 4.42 GPA. She also volunteers for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a local nursing home and at several youth volleyball programs.
As a Gatorade Player of the Year, Eggleston will be able to select a national or local youth sports organization to receive a grant as part of the Gatorade Play It Forward program. Every Gatorade Player of the Year state winner receives a $1,000 grant to donate and will have the opportunity to enter for an additional $10,000 spotlight grant by writing a brief essay explaining why their selected organization deserves additional support.
