BHS Educator Named National Teacher of the Year

Published November 8, 2016

Brentwood High AP environmental science teacher Doug Anderson has been finding creative and fun ways to teach science to BHS students for years.

Recently, more than just his students took notice of the effort he puts forth in the classroom.

Anderson was named the National Teacher of the Year by the National Association of Biology Teachers at their annual conference on November 5.

“The relationships I have formed with my students have allowed me to introduce them to research-based best practices, which ensures my students’ success,” Anderson said. “Receiving national recognition from my peers reinforces my approach so that more student success can be achieved in the future.”

Anderson has been teaching at BHS for the past 16 years, and each year he instructs over 150 students using a course designed so students complete monthly field work.
