Anyone who keeps up with cross country in Williamson County knows that Brentwood High coach Bill Anderson is one of the best coaches in the area, but now, cross country fans across the state will know that as well after Anderson was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Tennessee Coach of the Year on January 11.
Anderson helped coach the Brentwood boys cross country team to the 2016 Class AAA state championship and junior standout runner Brodey Hasty also won his second straight Class AAA individual state title under his watch.
“To be recognized by the USTFCCCA is an amazing honor, and I’m very humbled they selected me,” Anderson said.
While Anderson was ecstatic to receive the honor, he said he owes all of his success this year to the fantastic group of students he coaches.
“The credit really belongs to the amazing group of boys that I have this year,” he said. “I have never had a more dedicated and team-focused group of young men in my career. The team and our vision of each race is the number one priority in all that we do. This team’s focus is nowhere more evident than in the leadership of Taylor Vroon, Jackson Vroon and Brodey Hasty. They not only train hard for themselves but for the team as a whole, and seeing that unselfish commitment has been its own reward.”
