BE NICE PSA Earns National Honor

Published June 19, 2017

Williamson County Schools BE NICE program is once again earning national attention.

This month, the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) awarded the WCS Communications Department with a Golden Achievement Award for a series of Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) titled “Be a Friend, Step In.” These awards are given annually in recognition of exemplary work in all aspects of school public relations, communication, marketing and engagement.

The three PSA’s were recorded last summer with the help of several BE NICE ambassadors and are based on true stories from WCS students who have experienced bullying.

“We are so grateful for the students who helped us bring this project to life,” said WCS Communications Director Carol Birdsong. “Our BE NICE ambassadors were instrumental in creating a message we hope will resonate with students across the district.”

The idea for the PSA’s grew out of the district’s involvement in the Bullying Prevention Advisory Council. BPAC is a joint endeavor between Williamson County Schools and the Franklin Special School District and is dedicated to minimizing bullying behaviors in our schools. WCS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Charles Farmer and Counseling Specialist Becky Mitchell assisted with the project.
