BE NICE Month Kicks Off Next Week
Published August 25, 2016
September 1 marks the start of “BE NICE Month” in Williamson County. As we celebrate the third year of this district-wide movement, we are happy to debut a new video series featuring our BE NICE student ambassadors.
The videos were taped May 23 at the district’s annual BE NICE Leadership Summit where students and staff members from across the district came together to learn new ways to spread the BE NICE message.
The students and staff also sat down with members of the WCS Communications team that day to share thoughts on how we can all BE NICE this school year. The video below is the first of several that WCS will release in the coming weeks. It features students and staff from Crockett Elementary, Hillsboro School, Kenrose Elementary, Nolensville Elementary, Sunset Elementary, Sunset Middle and Woodland Middle schools.
As in year’s past, Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson will proclaim September as “BE NICE Month” at the September 12 County Commission meeting.
Background
In the 2013-14 school year, a group of Fairview High School students and staff began working on ways to create a culture of kindness in their school. Together, they came up with the slogan BE NICE and began printing t-shirts and signs with the mantra. As the message spread, photos of students, teachers, celebrities and professional athletes holding the BE NICE sign began to appear on social media. More importantly, teachers and students at Fairview High began to report a change in student behavior. Turns out, the BE NICE message was making a real difference!
On September 3, 2014, Williamson County Schools hosted a special event at the Franklin Theatre to kick-off the start of the district-wide BE NICE movement. Student representatives from each school were joined by mayors from around the county as the district celebrated the BE NICE way of life.
For the past two summers, students and staff representatives from each school have come together as part of the BE NICE Leadership Summit.
