Andrew Wittenberg is an Emmy award-winning TV News Anchor/Reporter for KSL in Salt Lake City. Having grown up in Triune, Andrew attended Nolensville Elementary, Page Middle and Page High before earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and electronic media at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

What led you to want to work in the field of broadcast journalism?

I’d have to say my first inspiration was my mother. She worked at WSMV Ch. 4 in Nashville for many years. People may remember Sharon Puckett (aka my mom) from the Ralph Emery Show and the morning newscasts on Ch. 4. When I got to high school and college, I primarily had an interest in sports and loved the environment that I’d grown up around with my mom. She helped lead the way, and I took the baton you might say. I’ve reported on some of the biggest sports events in the world including college football national championships, Super Bowls and most recently the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, but I still love reporting the news every day.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Meeting new people every day. Everyone has a story, and I love hearing them.

What did you enjoy most about your high school experience?

Baseball bus trips, football Friday nights and broadcasting class!

What WCS teacher made a difference in your life and how?

Mark Baker was the first teacher to steer me in the direction of actually working in television as a career. He was great in my Broadcasting and English classes at Page High School. But…I couldn’t leave out my teachers at Nolensville Elementary who were ALL AMAZING. Mrs. Butner, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Sawyer, Mrs. Scales, Mrs. Blackburn and Mrs. Blair. They had to put up with me a lot back in those days.

Do you have any advice for current WCS students?

Oh man. Never thought I’d be asked for advice. Give your teachers and coaches a break. They want the best for you. Study hard. Have fun too. Fill out applications for every college scholarship you can. And…whatever happens…it’s NOT the end of the world. Oh…and for all the students at Sunset Middle School, make sure you listen to my friend Mrs. Montileone.
