Across the Board – August 15, 2016

Outgoing School Board members PJ Mezera and Mark Gregory were recognized for their service prior to the Williamson County Board of Education on August 15, 2016.
During the meeting, 10 students from across the district were honored for receiving a Perfect ACT score. Brentwood High’s Suh Hyeon Ahn, Katherine Beier, Shirley Cai, Matthew Donahue, Shreyas Kumar and Abigail Ezell were honored. Hunter Spivey, Page High, and Ravenwood High’s Cailyn Goodbread, Theodore Grosson and Benjamin Thieme all earned a perfect ACT score as well.
Two students from Ravenwood, Nic Alexander and Mitchell Kiriazes, were recognized for being accepted to the All American Marching Band. Their band director is Mark Kinzer.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Dr. Mike Looney shared that the first day of kindergarten went well. In addition, he told the Board that the district still had a number of job vacancies.
In the Board Chairman’s Report, Gary Anderson reminded Board members that the TSBA Fall District meeting is September 22.
In New Business, the Board:
- Approved the Annual Agenda.
- Approved the Board Parameters for the 2017-18 school calendar.
- Approved three policies on first reading including Annual Agenda, Curriculum Development and Reduction in Staff.
- Approved a General Purpose School Fund Amendment-Energy Efficient Grant for $16,931.
- Approved a General Purpose School Fund Amendment-Contributions for $7,315.62.
- Approved a Central Cafeteria Fund Amendment-Commodities for $272,563.
- Approved an Education Capital Projects Intent to Fund Budget Resolution for the K-8 school in Thompson’s Station for $38,700,000.
- Approved an Education Capital Projects Intent to Fund Budget Resolution for a K-8 in the northern part of the county for $15,000,000 for design fees, site development and land acquisition.
In other business, the Board:
- Approved Dr. Looney’s evaluation noting that he exceeded expectations.
- Approved Capital Outlay Revised Requests for 2016-2017.
- Approved recommended field trip fee requests.
- Approved an editorial change to policy The Study of Religious Holidays.
- Approved five policies on second reading including School Calendar, Project Planning, The Study of Religious Holidays, Teacher Assistants and Bullying.
- Approved Outstanding Purchase Orders for School Activity Funds.
- Approved Title I, Focus Schools Grant for Fairview Middle School.
- Approved Lincoln Retirement Plan Services Fund Changes.
The next regular meeting of the Williamson County Board of Education is scheduled for Monday, September 19, 2016, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Administrative Complex.
