Academic All-Star – Westwood Elementary

Published May 4, 2017

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Westwood Elementary fifth grader Weston Pape is regarded as a well-rounded young man who takes pride in his school work. That’s why teachers at Westwood were excited to name him the school’s Academic All-Star for the 2016-17 school year.

“Weston is someone who will be successful in anything he chooses to do in life because of his self-discipline and passion for learning,” said his teachers Felicia Mears and Laura Liebmann. “He enjoys outdoor and indoor sports, including being a member of Fairview’s travel wrestling team. He helps his parents do yard work, and he likes to cut his mom’s flowers and surprise her with a bouquet on her desk.”

Weston’s favorite subject is math, and he has a passion for reading historical fiction. When he grows up, Weston says he’d like to be either an engineer or a rocket scientist.

In the fall, Weston will transition to sixth grade at Fairview Middle. Although he’s excited, Weston says there is at least one thing about the move that make him nervous.

“The lockers,” said Weston. “I’m nervous I’ll forget the code.”

On the plus side, Weston hopes to try out for the football team and says he’s looking forward to all of the new classes he’ll get to take. No matter what, Weston says he’ll always look back fondly on the time he spent here at Westwood Elementary.

“It’s a great school,” said Weston. “I’ll miss it. I guess I’m just growing up way too fast.”
