Academic All-Star – Trinity Elementary

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Eleven-year-old Dylan O’Connell always strives to be his best.

Whether he’s at school or on the basketball court, Dylan is someone who’s willing to put in the effort it takes to succeed. Combine that with a generous attitude and it’s easy to see why teachers at Trinity Elementary chose him as the school’s Academic All-Star.

“Conscientious and hardworking, Dylan is a friend to everyone,” said his teachers. “He is always polite and respectful and is a model student. Dylan serves as a student council member, and his creativity is evident when he shares his ideas to better our school.”

Dylan and his family moved to Williamson County from Baton Rouge when he was in second grade. He says the teachers at Trinity played a big role in making him feel welcome.

“When I first moved here, Ms. Drossner was my second grade teacher,” said Dylan. “She’s friendly and funny, and she always makes everyone feel better because she’s so nice.”

Now that he’s in fifth grade, Dylan is serious about making sure his school is a welcoming place for everyone, which is why he wanted to join the student council.

“We help with fundraisers, and we do projects,” said Dylan. “One time, we made cards that we distributed at lunch so each table could have its own conversation starter.”

Outside of school, Dylan likes to play basketball and spend time with friends. He also enjoys watching cooking shows, which is why he thinks he may want to be a chef when he grows up or own his own business.

In the meantime, Dylan pledges to continue working hard as he makes his way to Page Middle in August. And he’s grateful to all of the wonderful teachers at Trinity who’ve helped him along the way.

“I’m so excited, and I’m just very thankful for all my teachers who chose me for this award,” said Dylan. “There’s really not a word for it. It’s just amazing!”
