Academic All-Star – Pearre Creek Elementary

Published March 2, 2017

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Eleven-year-old Katie Ingram is proof that hard work pays off. The Pearre Creek fifth grader has shown dramatic improvement in her schoolwork the past six months, leading administrators to name her the school’s Academic All-Star.

“Katie is new to us this year, but she has shown herself to be one of the hardest-working students we have,” said Pearre Creek Principal Dr. Stephanie Goff. “In every way, she has grown by leaps and bounds and has developed a new love of reading along the way. Katie shows us every day that no challenge is too large.”

Katie and her family moved to Williamson County from South Florida. Although starting a new school can be difficult, Katie says she likes Pearre Creek. She’s especially excited to be part of this semester’s field trip to JA BizTown, which is a fully-interactive simulated town where students learn entrepreneurial and personal finance skills. On top of that, Katie enjoys learning about history.

“I like social studies,” said Katie. “We already learned about World War I, and now we’re learning about when women got the right to vote.”

Outside of school, Katie enjoys watching TV, playing games on her iPad and reading. While she’s not sure what she wants to be when she grows up, Katie says she likes working with animals.

No matter what she chooses, those who know her say Katie will excel thanks in part to the dedicated teachers and staff at Pearre Creek.

“We are so grateful for the teachers here who’ve given Katie one-on-one extra help every day,” said Katie’s mom, Allison. “Without all of these interventions, there’s no one way that we could have done this so fast. Katie was in a private school in Florida, and she didn’t get the same individualized attention she gets here.”
