The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.
Page High School senior Hayden Greer understands the importance of hard work. Rather than taking a light course load his senior year, Hayden made the decision to challenge himself instead.
“Hayden has an unfailing optimism and approaches his course work with informed intentions,” said Page High Assistant Principal Dr. Katie Hill. “He has taken on Honors-level course work in his senior year, and he takes those challenges seriously. We’re proud of him and excited to name him our Academic All-Star.”
After taking standard classes in ninth grade, Hayden was encouraged by one of his teachers to take it up a notch.
“I hadn’t really thought about taking Honors until then,” said Hayden. “She was the one who pushed me into taking Honors and then Advanced Placement courses which has gotten me to where I am now.”
Hayden says he has always enjoyed math and science, with chemistry being his favorite subject. Outside of school, Hayden loves hanging out with his friends and either playing or watching hockey.
As for next year, Hayden is going to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
“At first, I wanted to be an aerospace engineer,” said Hayden. “But I took physics this year, and I quickly changed my mind. Since I love chemistry, I’ve decided I want to try and be a chemical engineer.”
Receiving this award gives Hayden a sense of pride that his hard work is being recognized.
“I was shocked at first,” said Hayden. “I literally had no idea that was going to happen. It makes me feel pretty good that people actually recognize what I’m doing, other than just my mom saying ‘good job, buddy.’”
