The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.
Oak View Elementary School’s Academic All-Star is a hard-working student who loves to read and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
Administrators say 11-year-old Ava Grace Selby is the epitome of a kind, caring student who always tries her best, which is why she was chosen as the school’s Academic All-Star for the 2016-17 school year.
“Ava Grace is an extremely hard worker who is very organized,” said Principal Dr. Tom Morris. “She was new to Oak View last year and struggled quite a bit, but she has worked really hard this year to be an A and B student.”
Although Ava Grace came to Oak View last year as a fourth grader, she says the transition was an easy one thanks to the incredible teachers at the school.
“They’re really nice, and they understand if you’re having a problem with something,” said Ava Grace, who admits she wants to be an educator herself one day.
“I think it would be fun, because I like hanging out with kids.”
In the meantime, Ava Grace says she will continue pursuing two of her favorite passions: dancing and reading.
“I take dance lessons,” said Ava Grace. “I’m learning ballet and modern. I also like to read. I’m reading the Harry Potter series right now.”
Moving forward, Ava Grace says she’ll continue to put her education first, knowing it’s the key to a successful future.
