Academic All-Star – Heritage Elementary

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.
Fifth-grader Alexis Milani is all smiles when she arrives at Heritage Elementary School each day. Teachers say her positive attitude and love for learning are why the HES fifth grader was named this year’s Academic All-Star.
“Alexis is a team player who shows respect to all of her teachers and takes responsibilities for her actions,” said Alexis’ teachers. “Even when faced with a challenge, she perseveres to strive for academic excellence in all areas of her day.”
Alexis has attended Heritage Elementary since kindergarten, and says she loves everything about the school, especially her friends and teachers.
“It’s special because I’ve been here for six years, and I love it here,” said Alexis. “I love that I get to meet new friends, and I like my teachers. They teach me stuff that I really need to know.”
Alexis’s favorite subject is reading, which is something she likes to do at school and at home. Not only does she read stories, but she writes them too.
“I like to write my own stories,” said Alexis. “I get ideas from books. When I was little, I wrote a story about animals. I just made up my own animal which was a mix between an elephant and a lion. I just think it’s fun to make books.”
When she’s not busy making her next literary masterpiece, Alexis enjoys playing soccer and swimming. During recess, she’s usually playing with her twin brother on the playground.
For her after-school plans, Alexis wants to follow her parents’ footsteps and become a chiropractor.
“I want to be a chiropractor like my parents so I can help people,” said Alexis. “I decided I want to learn from them and be like them.”
Alexis knows the importance of doing well in school now to get into college later in life, and her hard work proves it. Out of all the students at Heritage Elementary, Alexis was surprised to find out she had received HES’s Academic All-Star Award, but it’s a well-deserved recognition.
“I feel very happy and scared at the same time,” said Alexis, who was surprised with the award during a school assembly February 2. “When I was called up in front of the whole school, I was so surprised I freaked out.”
