The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.
Fourteen-year-old Cylena McGee is a kind and respectful student who consistently exceeds expectations. That’s according to teachers and administrators at Fairview Middle School who say Cylena is the perfect choice for this year’s Academic All-Star award.
“Cylena contributes to the classroom community by always being prepared, working to her fullest potential and serving as a role model for her peers,” said Fairview Middle Principal Heather Hayes. “If she struggles with a task, Cylena will ask questions and accept feedback to further her academic growth. Her teachers unanimously agreed she is a pleasure to have in class, and she always gives 100 percent. This kind of perseverance and character is what makes Cylena an Academic All-Star.”
As she finishes up her time at Fairview Middle and prepares for high school, Cylena says she is thankful for the help she has received from her teachers at FVMS.
“My teachers have helped me a lot, especially Mr. Grimenstein and Ms. Lassan” said Cylena. “Ms. Lassan helps me with my notes in science and social studies, and Mr. Grimenstein helps me when I have trouble with my math homework.”
When she’s not in school, Cylena likes to spend time with her friends and family. She also thinks she might want to be a journalist one day. No matter what she chooses, Cylena pledges to keep working hard at school.
“School is very important,” said Cylena “It’s important to me because you need an education to get a good job. School gets you where you want to be in life.”
