Academic All-Star – Chapman’s Retreat Elementary

Published January 12, 2016

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Teachers at Chapman’s Retreat Elementary School describe 10-year-old Abigayle Salyer as a confident student who always has a great attitude. So when it came time to select an Academic All-Star for the 2016-17 school year, the choice was clear.

“Abigayle is more than just a hard worker,” said CRES teacher Sharon Conn. “She is filled with so much joy. She is never late to class; always willing to try her best; and she is always the first one to help a friend. Abigayle is the epitome of what a Chapman’s Cheetah should look like.”

Abigayle moved to Tennessee from Florida in second grade. Although starting a new school isn’t easy, Abigayle says she has grown to love being at Chapman’s Retreat.

“I really like it here because everyone is nice,” said Abigayle. “The thing that’s most important to me is being nice to everyone.”

Abigayle has two favorite subjects: science and social studies. She likes science because she enjoys the experiments, and she likes social studies because she likes the fun activities they get to do. Outside of school, Abigayle likes to draw and read. Her favorite book is The Face on the Milk Carton.

When she grows up, Abigayle wants to be a nurse like her mom so she can help people. Teachers say her future is bright no matter what career she chooses.

“I have never heard Abigayle complain or try to give up,” said Conn. “She truly wants to learn, and her excitement about even small achievements reminds me why I have the best job in the world. Abby deserves to be named an Academic All-Star, because she is a true, shining star.”
