Academic All-Star – Brentwood Middle

Published May 11, 2017

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and Sonic Drive-In and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

Brentwood Middle School eighth grader Frelen Moon epitomizes hard work, determination and perseverance. That’s why teachers and administrators say he’s the ideal choice for this year’s Academic All-Star award.

“Over the past two years, Frelen has worked tirelessly to reach his fullest potential at Brentwood Middle,” said BMS Principal Dr. Brandon Barkley. “We are so proud of his hard work and dedication, and he has made tremendous growth at BMS.”

Frelen moved to Williamson County two years ago and says he has enjoyed attending school at BMS.

“I like choir,” said Frelen. “That’s what I’ve enjoyed the most here. I like to sing because it helps me express my emotions.”

On the academic side, Frelen says his favorite subject is science.

“I like learning about chemistry and experiments and all that stuff,” said Frelen. “I think that’s pretty cool. We had this one part in science where you had to take apart a vacuum cleaner, and I especially enjoyed that.”

Outside of school, Frelen likes to play video games like Minecraft. But he’s careful not to let that interfere with his studies which he says are most important.

“An education is important because it’s the building block for my future,” said Frelen. “It’s important to pay attention in school. If you do, you’ll be prepared for what comes up in real life.”

With the school year winding down, Frelen plans to head into ninth grade with a renewed confidence that comes with being named an Academic All-Star.

“Winning this award makes me feel awesome,” said Frelen. “Out of all the students in this school, I’m the one.”
