Academic All-Star – Allendale Elementary

Published December 7, 2016

The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Chick-fil-A and a free gift courtesy of Big Frog Custom T-Shirts & More in Franklin.

He has only been a student at Allendale for a few months, but fifth grader Alex Alford is already making a name for himself at the school.

The 11-year-old is earning praise from teachers and students alike for his positive attitude and determination to succeed, making him the perfect choice for this year’s Academic All-Star.

“Alex is such a hard-worker, and he doesn’t let himself get discouraged,” said Allendale Elementary Teacher Carolyn Allen. “Alex is always cheerful, polite and treats everyone with respect.”

Starting a new school can be difficult, but Alex says the teachers at Allendale have made the transition easier than expected.

“The teachers here are really nice,” said Alex. “They help us learn.”

Alex’s favorite subject is math, and he said he finds multiplication particularly easy. When he’s not in school, Alex can often be found playing basketball or computer games.

Although he’s not sure what he wants to be when he grows up, teachers say Alex’s can-do attitude and cheerful demeanor will serve him well no matter what he chooses.

“Alex is always positive, and he faces any challenge like a champ,” said Allen. “He is always on task, gives 150 percent and embodies the county’s BE NICE way of life.”
