Williamson County Creates First Ever Mountain Biking Team

Published September 3, 2015

Mountain biking is a growing sport in Williamson County – so much so that this fall marks the first time that Williamson County will have a composite team for students in middle and high school.

“Before this team started, all of them were just racing as independent riders. They were just out there with their parents and racing on their own,” said coach Katherine Williams said. “The biggest thing is they’ll have friends they can ride with and it’ll create a network for them to meet fellow peers interested in bicycling.”

One of the things Franklin High junior Simon Lewis loves about the team is the camaraderie.

“The Williamson County composite team is great,” said Lewis. It allows anyone in our county to race. The team is made up of guys and girls; we have about 12 on the team this year. It’s great to get to know the other riders from all the different schools.”

The team practices a couple times a week and encourages members to ride on their own outside of practice. The next race is in Memphis on September 27.
