Westwood Elementary fifth grader Dylan Hudson is the American Automobile Association (AAA) Tennessee Patroller of the Year for the 2015-16 school year.
“Dylan Hudson is a natural leader,” said Westwood Elementary Principal Valerie Garcia. “We know he is a great student and an exemplary role model. Because he now won this award, people across the state of Tennessee know it too.”
The AAA sponsors the safety patrol program and provides materials for free or a nominal fee. The Patroller of the Year award is open to the highest grade level in the school that participates in safety patrol. For Westwood that is fifth grade. Westwood Safety Patrol Sponsor Lee Ann Bauer nominated Dylan for the award.
“Dylan exemplifies the three values of safety patrol which are responsibility, leadership and citizenship,” said Westwood Safety Patrol Sponsor Lee Ann Bauer. “I am over the moon to have him win Safety Patroller of the Year for the State of Tennessee.”
AAA will present Dylan with his award at an assembly in May.
Westwood Elementary routinely has more than 90 safety patrollers from fourth and fifth grade enrolled in the program. Their assignments include morning car, bus, hall and flag duty, as well as afternoon hall, bus and flag duty.
