WCS Team Shines Light on Schools

Published August 28, 2015

Effective communication is a team effort. Here in Williamson County Schools, dozens of school employees work together on a daily basis to provide parents, students and staff with information about the district and its schools.

Much of that information comes directly from each school’s Good News Ambassador. These men and women are school employees who volunteer their time to provide photos, video and school news to the WCS Communications Department and local media outlets.

On August 27, the district’s Good News Ambassadors and high school media production teachers gathered in Franklin for training on the do’s and don’ts of communicating in WCS. While many topics were covered, much of the day was spent discussing the importance of making sure student privacy is protected and ensuring that only students who have signed media release forms appear in any communication.

Additionally, each school has a webmaster who updates the website and works with the district webmaster. Over the summer, webmasters attended various training sessions to make sure their websites were updated with the latest software and fresh information for the new school year. These individuals work year around to make sure you know what’s going on in your school(s).

The WCS Communications Department is a six-member team that works to support and enhance communication between the schools and school district and the Williamson County community. The department works with the local media in sharing district information and supports good news ambassadors at each school. The district uses InFocus, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and the school district website to communicate with students, staff, parents, community members and stakeholders.

“Our goal each year is not only to keep the WCS community informed of what’s going on in the district but to shine a light on all of the wonderful things our students and staff are doing on a daily basis,” said Communications Director Carol Birdsong. “We wouldn’t be able to do that without the incredible work of our Good News Ambassadors and school webmasters. We are so thankful for their dedication and commitment to their school.”

Below you will find the name of this year’s Good News Ambassadors, webmasters and high school media production teachers.
