WCS Students Participate in Youth in Government

Dozens of Williamson County students are getting a better idea of what government is all about thanks to their involvement in the annual YMCA Youth in Government Conference in Nashville.

They were among hundreds of Tennessee teens who gathered at the State Capitol this month for the mock government session. The YMCA Youth in Government Conference gives students hand-on experience with state government.

Below is a list, by school, of the Williamson County students who were recognized at this year’s conference. The red chambers are for the older and/or more experienced delegates. The blue chambers are for novice delegates.

Brentwood High

  • Best Statesman Award in Red House – Abigail Ezell and Madison Wade
  • Best Statesman Award in Blue House – Casey Crowe and Garrett Linney
  • Best Bill in Red House – Jackson McNabb, Jackson McNabb and Huzyfa Fazili
  • Connor Carroll and Oliver McCammon won the “Final Court Case.”
  • Joey Bonnaire was elected Head Lobbyist.
  • Oliver McCammon was elected Supreme Court Justice.
  • The BHS Quiz Bowl Team won first place and was undefeated. Team members are John Hill, Emma Young, Joseph Gripenstraw and Abigail Ezell.
  • Graham Walters was elected to the state officer position of Red Senate Floor Leader.
  • Maya Daniel was elected to the state officer position of Red Senate Speaker Pro-Temp.

Page High

  • Outstanding Delegate – Alexa Nolan, Meredith Dunn and Alex Boulay
  • Outstanding Bill – Gracie Hawkins, Megan Juba, Alexa Nolan
  • Outstanding Bill – Christina Hancock, Sarah Parker, Elaine Wright, Sean Harris and Nathan Fulk
  • Alex Boulay was elected Senate Sergeant at Arms for the 2017 conference.

Summit High

  • Outstanding Lobbyist – Caitlyn Mulcahey
  • Kellie Veltri was chosen as CONA alternate.
